Proposed Projects

West Leamington Site

PROJECT INFORMATION

The OntAgri Power Cogeneration Inc.- West Leamington Site is a 9.996 MW natural gas tri-generation facility that will be located in Leamington, Ontario, delivering a proven technology supply of a long-term energy to the Ontario electricity grid to increase the local electricity system reliability. The Project is part of the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) LONG-TERM 2 CAPACITY SERVICES (WINDOW 1) (LT2(c-1)) procurement to expand the Ontario electricity grid capacity, and to enhance the cost-effective reliability of the provinces power sources. it is subject to IESO LT2(c-1) selection process, requiring a Municipal Support Resolution, municipal site plan approval, relevant zoning amendments and all the applicable municipal permits.

Natural Gas generation provides flexibility to the system by quickly ramping up and down to meet changes in demand and augmenting the availability of other forms of generation. Natural gas generation can also support longer periods of need during extreme weather events and, as of yet, there is no like-for-like replacement. Operating a system without it requires a careful analysis of how a combination of other forms of supply can provide this level of flexibility.” (IESO Resource Eligibility report released Oct.2022).

At OntAgri Power Cogeneration, we believe in environmental sustainability and stewardship, and are investing in state-of-the-art carbon capture and liquification technology. This will ensure that when our engines operate, there are no emissions, and we can repurpose a greenhouse gas such as Carbon Dioxide (CO2) to assist our farmers in growing crops through optimizing photosynthesis. This facility is proposed to be co-located to North America’s most innovative Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) facility where heat from the engines will be supplied. At this location all greenhouse organic waste will be able to be received to create RNG that will be put back into the local Enbridge gas system. This will supply the residents of Leamington with long-term, continued supplies of green, clean energy and power a sustainable food production system.

The heat will aid in regulating the internal temperature of greenhouse crops for optimal growth conditions, and Carbon Dioxide will enhance photosynthesis and subsequent fruit and vegetable production.
